Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Haematologist to support the services provided by NHS Dumfries and Galloway. The successful candidate will work closely alongside two existing substantive consultants in our new purpose-built facility at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, providing a Haematology service to the local population.

The department provides comprehensive Clinical and Laboratory Haematology with the potential to develop sub-speciality interests. The successful applicant will have training and experience in Haematology, with an expertise in Haemato-Oncology, and would have the opportunity to develop in a preferred specialist area.

It is an exciting time in Dumfries and Galloway as the new District General Hospital opened in December 2017.  The hospital is based on the western outskirts of the town. The new hospital will ensure NHS Dumfries and Galloway staff are able to continue to provide high quality clinical care to the population of Dumfries and Galloway in a modern environment.

The region offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer, with water sports, fishing, birdwatching, golf, mountain-biking or cycling along the network of rural roads and much more.  House prices are low, schools are good and you are within 2 hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lake District and Newcastle.

Applicants must either be on the GMCs Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST at the time of interview.

The post is intended as full-time (10PAs, 9 DCC, 1 SPA), any candidate who, for personal reasons, is unable to work whole-time is eligible to be considered for the post on a less than full-time contract.

Interested applicants are invited to visit the departments and/or discuss the posts further with Dr Ranjit Thomas, Consultant Haematologist, Tel. , email Ranjit.Thomas2@nhs.scot , or Mr Martyn McAdam, Blood Science Service Manager, Tel. , email Martyn.Mcadam2@nhs.scot.
