Post:  1.0 wte CONSULTANT CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRist

Base: skye house REGIONAL adolescent inpatient psychiatry service, .

This post offers the chance to deliver a psychiatric service for young people up to 18 years in a regional inpatient setting. The service is a centre of excellence and the post will likely be sometimes demanding but always interesting.  As a regional service there are opportunities not only for liaison with young people, families and multi-agency colleagues but also to develop links with colleagues across the 5 West of Scotland referring Health Boards and with the other two inpatient services for young people in Scotland (in Edinburgh and Dundee).  The post holder will join a very experienced Consultant colleague as well as being supported by a cohesive and well-functioning multidisciplinary team.

The Consultant Psychiatrist has Responsible Medical Officer responsibilities for those patients within the regional adolescent inpatient service to which they will provide inpatient care and medical leadership.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and a licence to practice. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview.  Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Experience of having worked in tier 3 or 4 child and adolescent psychiatry services is essential. Applicants must be registered as an Approved Medical Practitioner according to the terms of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act (2003) or agree to undertake training to achieve this qualification as a condition of appointment.

Experience in Paediatrics, General Practice or a Medical Specialty would be a bonus alongside CAMHS experience. The Consultant Psychiatrist will take RMO responsibility for the care of young people from age 12 years up to 17 years inclusive (up to 18th birthday) with severe and complex psychiatric disorders including complex low weight eating disorders, psychosis, EUPD, depression and complex co-morbid conditions.  Skye House staff work within evidence based pathways of care for young people with complex disorders and the team work to the philosophy and determinants of the Mental Health Act Scotland including using of the least restrictive options for care.

There is a large and supportive body of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist colleagues in NHSGGC and there are additional opportunities to engage in research, teaching, CPD and the pursuit of special interests.

Our CAMHS services are situated in and around the city Glasgow which is a vibrant multicultural city, providing a range of cultural, sporting and outdoor activities. There is easy access to the beautiful Scottish Highlands and Islands and a major international airport giving direct access to a variety of destinations.
