Salary Scale - £107,144 - £142,369 per annum (pro rata)

Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.

NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Paediatric Consultant in Community Child Health. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Paediatric Consultant with an interest in Community Child Health to join our small and friendly Child Development Team.

This is a new post offering an excellent opportunity to help develop and shape our expanding Community Child health service and also contribute to the Neurodevelopmental pathway for 0-18 year olds within Forth Valley in line with current guidelines. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the diagnosis and support of children with a variety of neurodiverse conditions including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and foetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Previous diagnostic experience is therefore desirable but formal training can be provided.

This post also provides an excellent opportunity for applicants with special interest in Child Protection and interest in the lead role for Child Protection in NHS Forth Valley.

The community team provides general developmental clinics and specialist clinics in neurodisability, tone assessment and management with botox, Looked after and Accommodated Children assessments, Adoption and Fostering assessments, Comprehensive health assessments, School aged health clinics, Downs syndrome, visually impaired and hearing clinics. We welcome any interest within these services.

Clinics are based across the Forth Valley area including Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmanashire as well as in the Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) in Larbert.

All Paediatric Consultants are expected to have a minimum of Level 3 Child Protection training and participate in child protection examinations for physical abuse and neglect allegations.

Applicants interested in the Child Protection lead role are expected to have further formal training in Child protection at Level 4/5 (RCPCH) and have substantial clinical experience in the field of safeguarding/child protection and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people, and the court process. They should have been clinically active (or have held an active clinical position in the previous two years) in the field of safeguarding/child protection, as part of their clinical commitments. Formal training and experience in evaluation and examination for physical signs of child sexual abuse would also be of benefit.

Although the post does not have an acute paediatric component a hybrid job would be considered depending on the individual interest. There is no out of hours commitment associated with this post.

Forth Valley Paediatric department participates in several regional and national Managed Clinical networks facilitating the maintenance of specialist interests for all senior medical staff. It provides a vibrant teaching programme and welcomes medical students as well as trainee doctors from Edinburgh, Tayside and Glasgow, some of which are based within child health.

Involvement in research is encouraged and active participation in the Scottish Patient Safety Programme SPSP Paediatric and Maternity is well established.

The community medical team consists of 4 Consultant Paediatricians and 3 Specialty Doctors. We are based at FVRH in Larbert as part of the wider general paediatric team. This enables close working with other Paediatric and MDT colleagues. Support from the community nursing team is excellent.

The department provides comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care to a population of 310,000 people with 60,000 children under the age of 16 years and about 3,200 deliveries per annum. There is a 25 bedded combined medical and surgical Paediatric ward; a 20 bedded Neonatal Unit supporting a Consultant led Obstetric unit and an 8 bedded Paediatric Day Care Unit.

You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues.

Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
