Full Job Description

Radio Speech is looking for a Content Assistant and Facilitator to work out of the Inverness office, supporting a blind Content Producer.You'll work with the Content Producer to produce high quality content across a range of BBC Radio Scotland programmes., Content Assisting

  • To assist the Content Producer in producing a wide range of material for programmes

  • Support with the operation of recording equipment as well as microphones.

  • To provide reading and research support as well as being able to identify potential programme ideas.

  • To build strong relationships with wider radio and audio and resources team

  • To assist the Content Producer by writing up accurate briefing notes

  • Note-take in meetings

  • Support with the gathering of photographs or video content.

  • To use various BBC software packages

  • General administrative tasks


  • Facilitation
  • Offering the producer sighted assistance whilst in unfamiliar locations as well as having the ability to give detailed descriptions of the surroundings.

  • Providing sighted assistance whilst on public transport

  • Assist the Content Producer to prepare for and conduct recordings while on location

  • Driving long distances across Scotland (sometimes on rural roads) as and when required to locations, programme depending

    Applicants are expected to read scripts and a selection of newspapers and online content to source ideas for programmes as well as do some basic radio editing. You will be required to assist in the operation of microphones and digital recording devices. Experience of working in a radio production environment will be an advantage.


  • The ability to work flexibly is essential, as on occasion there will be longer working days or over-nights depending on the production requirements. Holding a full, valid driving license is also essential, and experience of driving on Scotland's rural roads is preferable.

    You must be able to provide accurate descriptions of the surroundings to the Content Producer whilst on location and to spot potential hazards whilst providing sighted assistance to the Content Producer on location (training can be given where required). Facilitation is an essential part of this job, and candidates will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of facilitation.,

  • Editing skills/ ability and desire to learn new technical skills as required

  • Full, valid driving license

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Interest in developing programme ideas

  • Flexibility to work away from home and travel across Scotland for up to 2-3 nights at a time, as and when required as part of the Content Producer's role
