An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Content Producer to join the Scotland Tonight production team. Working closely with the Producer to help shape an agenda for Scotland Tonight that is compelling, engaging, and distinct. About the Role The Content Producer will focus on producing long-form current affairs content for the Thursday prime time programme. You will primarily work with a reporter on bespoke films, as well as developing ideas with the wider production team. In addition, the Content Producer will have the opportunity to work across the nightly Scotland Tonight programmes and will have the opportunity to output the programme, when required. Digital impact is a key priority for Scotland Tonight and you will have a proven track record in this area. From interviews with key voices to pictures of incredible moments, the Content Producer role is focused on developing and sourcing content that really connects with audiences. This is a flexible position that may be aligned to a single output but will more commonly supply material tailored for use on broadcast, digital and social platforms for Scotland Tonight.,

  • Work closely with the Producer and Scotland Tonight production team to develop compelling stories for use on programmes and digital
  • Deliver engaging content in multiple formats to standards and styles agreed with Producers and Output Editors
  • Participate in forward planning to help ensure a diverse and engaging mix of content is available across our platforms
  • Establish effective communication with Journalists to ensure visibility of story progress and the efficient investigation of new leads and angles
  • Develop and maintain a strong contacts base across a range of sectors to quickly source information, confirmations, and contributions
  • Assist in any other aspects of the work of the Company as reasonably required.

    Experience of editing and crafting both reporter and contributor-led items
  • A highly developed news sense, demonstrating the ability to handle major breaking news stories, development of original news features and deliver agenda-setting journalism
  • Detailed knowledge of the Scottish news, current affairs and social trends
  • Solid understanding of what audiences want from news and current affairs on digital and broadcast channels
  • Sound editorial judgement and a command of the legal, ethical, compliance and regulatory considerations of news
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced news environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and quickly in challenging and rapidly changing circumstances
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels
  • Ability to think creatively and provide innovative ideas for improving our news output and serving our audiences.
  • The Content Producer will be required to work a combination of day and back shifts as well as some weekends.
