Full Job Description

As the Corrosion Engineer, you will be assisting in the planning and co-ordination of the activities of the team and supports the Team Leader to ensure optimum achievement of operational targets in the most cost-effective manner, consistent with safe operating practices and quality standards and to develop new areas of business to support the continued growth of the team., The role assists in the planning and co-ordination of the activities of the team and supports the Team Leader to ensure optimum achievement of operational targets in the most cost-effective manner, consistent with safe operating practices and quality standards and to develop new areas of business to support the continued growth of the team. Also the role supports the Sour Service Team Leader and senior staff in the running and management of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited test methodologies and works in our Sour Service team, carrying out sour service corrosion testing of low alloy steels to AMPP (formerly NACE) TM0316/TM0177, ASTM and EFC guidelines to UKAS/ISO 17025 standard.

Key activities:

  • Undertake project management responsibility for a variety of projects with minimal supervision including preparing estimates and proposals in conjunction with senior staff.

  • Input effectively as part of a team on larger projects, coordinating the activities of other project and laboratory staff members.

  • Have a top to bottom knowledge and oversight of the departmental laboratory processes.

  • Perform post-test metallographic preparation and optical analysis of test samples.

  • With minimal oversight by senior staff analyse and interpret data and information pertinent to the progress of assignments and the preparation of client reports.

  • Produce clear and concise technical reports and answer client queries on reports in a satisfactory and professional manner.

  • Effectively operate project management systems and procedures; project estimates, time allocation, project budgets, billing and other systems as required.

  • Maintain awareness of the project budgets and manage client invoicing of assigned projects in collaboration with Team Leader.

  • Ensure all work carried out follows agreed procedures as set out in the local management system including, as appropriate, job sheets, assignment and project plans, sample instruction sheets prior to authorisation and release by Team Leader.

  • Ensure compliance with any local systems, rules and procedures, including any quality assurance standards (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 etc.) set by the Company and/or external certification authorities.

  • Maintain continuing contact with client staff and maintain good working relationships with Intertek CAPCIS clients with whom they have been introduced.

    Degree qualified in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar STEM degree

  • Industrial experience, preferably in a materials' testing environment.

  • Knowledge of AMPP (formerly NACE) TM0316/TM0177, ASTM and EFC guidelines and of UKAS/ISO 17025 would be advantageous.

  • Experience of working to accredited technical standards, or alternatively demonstrable experience of systems and process thinking ability

  • Experience of customer/client interactions

  • Ability to understand and interpret customer/client technical needs and implement test methodologies to meet client needs

  • Excellent organisation and scheduling skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Good IT literacy skills, especially using Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Experience of staff supervision would be an advantage
