Full Job Description

Materials Selection: Advising on appropriate materials and design considerations to prevent in-service materials degradation and achieve specified requirements. Understanding the corrosivity of external environments and internal process conditions with respect to their impact on carbon steels, corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs) and non-metallic materials. Designing test programmes to assess materials suitability for service conditions where theoretical assessment is not feasible. Corrosion Management: Auditing existing systems and conducting corrosion risk assessments, materials adequacy audits and reviewing / recommending corrosion control and monitoring requirements. Also conducting corrosion risk assessments using statistical modelling and uncertainty principles. Integrity Management & Risk-Based Inspection: Conducting fitness-for-service assessments (to Level 1 and 2) on piping, pipelines and static equipment and developing risk-based in-service inspection and monitoring plans. Corrosion Control Design: Selection, design and specification of corrosion control measures including, material selection, chemical treatment requirements, coating specification and cathodic protection, specification and related troubleshooting. Experience with Industry modelling packages and Industry guidance: Use of ECE and Larkton CM packages would be beneficial, with specific reference to O2/C02/H2S modelling impacts. Similarly strong knowledge of Sour Service materials guidance (ISO15156) would be expected. An developing interest in the developing aspects of CCUS with respect to material selection and standards would be useful., Joining our experienced team of consultancy engineers based within our business at Trafford Park, Manchester, the candidate will be looking to grow their career through managing consultancy and project opportunities. The role will be mix of a technical consultancy and corrosion engineering assessment work and may involve interaction on projects with the wider Failure Investigation, Integrity, Testing and Production Chemistry teams. The role will has the potential to also require site and field work opportunities. Key activities:

  • Prepare estimates and proposals for negotiations with client companies, suppliers and others. Develop project plans, determining priorities and supervising project staff (where applicable).
  • Analyze and interpret metallurgical, microscopic, and analytical information pertinent to the progress of assignments and the preparation of client reports.
  • Produce clear and concise technical reports and answer client queries on those reports in a satisfactory and professional manner.
  • The role requires confidence and the ability to give technical presentations to forums, seminars, conferences etc, and to Intertek CAPCIS clients and potential customers as the need arises.
  • Manage project budgets, time allocation and billing of assigned projects, resolving any issues arising that could impact profitability and/or client expectations.
  • Actively seek to generate additional business for the IIG Team, or other teams within Intertek CAPCIS, as opportunity arises.

    Degree qualified in the engineering or physical sciences, e.g.Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, corrosion science or similar.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience in relevant fields. (10 years for PE role) i.e. oil & gas production, oil & gas pipelines, petrochemicals, chemicals, oil refining, offshore wind and wave energy
  • Professional Member of a recognized Learned Body (e.g. IOM3, IMechE, IChemE)
  • Familiarity with appropriate industry standards and Guides, such as: AMPP (NACE), ASME, API, Energy Institute, DNV
  • Able to undertake project management responsibility for a variety of corrosion consultancy project projects.
