Freelancers are eligible to apply for an internal role if they are on a Worker Contract and they have worked continuously for 6 months. It's a chance to make an impact on BBC Scotland's social media platforms and connect directly with our audience, showcasing the wide range of output from BBC Scotland and the wider BBC.

BBC Scotland's portfolio of content spans video and audio across a wide range of genres including drama, comedy, factual, entertainment, current affairs and sport. This role would see you schedule, create and publish promotional and marketing content from this portfolio across a wide variety of social media and digital platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X. Recent campaigns include Rebus, Granite Harbour, TRNSMT and The Agency: Unfiltered and we've a varied slate of content that requires constant creative flex in our narrative to audiences.

Reporting into the Social Media Manager, you'll work in the Content Discovery team which is part of the wider Scotland Brand Marketing team, based at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. The Content Discovery team is responsible for managing, curating and moderating several of BBC Scotland's key social media accounts daily as well as the creation of video, imagery and text content for these accounts. In addition the team is responsible for curation of several high impact areas across the BBC's online estate and iPlayer imagery for BBC Scotland commissions and co-commissions.

You'll also work with marketing and social teams across the wider BBC developing creative approaches and sharing best social practice for continuous development.,

  • Managing social media accounts, including creating/curating, scheduling and targeting content, ensuring that it supports both the overarching strategic priorities, drives engagement and meets audience/user needs.

  • Remaining up to date with social media platforms changes and audience needs to ensure our content cuts through in a busy marketplace.

  • Establishing great working relationships with other BBC teams locally and across the UK to ensure that content reaches the target audiences.

  • Monitoring performance of the social media channels on a day-to-day basis and reporting to the Social Media Manager and other key stakeholders as required.

  • Ensuring editorial content meets audience needs, supports the accounts' brand values and is consistent with the agreed editorial style and tone.

  • Moderating comments and escalating issues to the Social Media Manager, Head of Social and other senior stakeholders as required.

    This role requires a range of craft skills and creative experience to tackle a range of projects. You must be able to work independently on multiple campaigns but will be mentored and supported as needed when working on more complex projects., This role requires specific skills and experience, usually gained through working within the creative department of a broadcaster/agency:


  • In-depth knowledge of social media and digital platforms

  • Curiosity around audience needs and behaviours across platforms, devices and content with the ability to build this into social media plans and reactive strategies.

  • Creative thinking and copywriting skills

  • Video and image editing experience (using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience of working with and promoting editorially complex content

  • Experience of data analysis to help inform decision making

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure

  • Experience of working in a broadcast or agency environment would be advantageous
