Full Job Description

Entering the growth phases of Cairney Cycles social enterprise partnership our Cycle Development Managers will be responsible for managing customers, communications, projects for delivery of activities both in-the-workshop and in-the-saddle. We will be growing relationships with the community, third and statutory sector partners and the Cycle industry. Managers will be responsible for coordinating this activity as instructed by the Programme Lead. To support the growth of the programme, you will engage with local communities and clubs creating links and opportunities whilst mentoring and supporting our cycle development officers, team members and volunteers. You will support the programme lead on everything cycling-related and be a point of contact for all cycling-specific enquiries, our bike rental scheme and any other sales. This will involve handling retail transactions, developing and adhering to policies and procedures and being responsible for health and safety of
customers, employees and those working within our programmes. A key part of the role will involve working with the team to maximise funding opportunities to support development of the project.

This reflects some of the resent requirements of the role, but this is not an exhaustive list, and the programme is subject to change depending on funding and outside influences. For this reason, we'll need someone who is adaptable to changes as the project develops.

  • Essential experience and knowledge:
  • Experience working with various age groups from children, young people and adults as well as working with vulnerable groups such as additional needs, elderly in care for example.

  • Experience of working with the voluntary and statutory sectors and community groups.

  • Experience of sports coaching (preferred min of 3 years); establishing, delivering and co-ordinating coaching programmes for young people with a demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate and encourage them through cycling, and to adapt sessions appropriately dependent on the needs of young people.

  • Experience of coaching in a wide range of environments including schools, clubs and community settings.

  • Experience of tutoring/facilitation of club development/coaching workshops

  • Experience of managing Compliance and Health and Safety in a cycling and workshop environment

  • Experience of working with KPI's, monitoring of performance and reporting processes.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to identify risks and opportunities and ensure these are understood and acted upon.

  • Experience with cycle mechanics and repair. Demonstrable mechanical engineering-based skills/experience are essential.


  • Essential Education Qualifications:
  • Cytech qualification to level 2 or Cycling Scotland / Scottish Cycling ride qualification such as Ride Leader, Bike Ability Instructor for example. (or equivalent)

  • First Aid qualification (or willing to undertake)

  • Highers or equivalent including Maths and English


  • Desirable:
  • Knowledge of the barriers facing women in accessing and developing in sports , in particular cycling.

  • Experience of working with the public in retailing environment, managing expectations and delivering quality customer service.

  • Willingness to educate and expand the strategy

  • Experience of preparing funding applications and monitoring of funded programmes to report back to key stakeholders.
