Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Charge Nurse at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

As part of our team you will triage patients being referred to our service, you will co-ordinate the nursing team and  liaise with the multi-disciplinary team within the unit to ensure patient care is delivered appropriately. You will be able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment recognizing the individual needs of patients presenting to acute medicine.  You will understand the different models of care offered to the individual patient and the objectives for patient centered care.

This is an innovative unit, with onsite learning and support, ensuring that you have the knowledge and skills to deliver care in all the models of health care delivery.  These areas include Operational Response Centre (ORC), Initial Assessment Area, Rapid Assessment and Care (RAC), Acute Frailty Unit and 35 inpatient acute medical in-patient rooms. You are responsible for assessing accepting or redirecting GP referrals to appropriate pathways as Single Point of Contact within CAU which requires experience in multiple medical specialties.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • You will be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • You will revalidate every 3 years with excellent reflection and feedback opportunities.
  • You  will have an in-depth knowledge of unscheduled, acute care including highly skilled assessment abilities.  
  • Demonstrate high level specialist clinical knowledge and skill through formal or informal learning and practical experience and reflection.
  • Initiate appropriate actions/interventions through assessing patients and analysing a range of clinical parameters, utilising complex clinical decision making skills.
