Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join our diabetic specialist nursing team for NHS Highland has arisen for a suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated individual.

Are you a ready to take on a new challenge and to be part of an established team who are passionate about providing quality diabetes care in the Highlands?

Working in partnership with colleagues across Highland the Diabetes Specialist Nurse develops and delivers specialist education, care, advice and information to people who have diabetes within the Highland region.  This role in particular is to support the Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurses in the provision of care to people who use insulin pump therapy and to young adults. The post holder will also support the diabetes care for women during pregnancy and contribute to the inpatient specialist nurse service.

You must be a first level registered nurse with professional knowledge and clinical expertise of nursing attained either through relevant degree or proven in depth knowledge and skills of this speciality area.  Ideally successful candidates will be able to evidence details of post registration diabetes related courses or a willingness to undertake these.  In addition, evidence of training in delivering education would be advantageous.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with an ability to work autonomously are essential for this post.

This post is based within the Diabetes Centre at UHI House on the Raigmore Hospital site.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
