Full Job Description
- Receiving and booking the samples on our online booking systems (iWISE) from clients
- Perform Nucleic acids extraction and perform PCR analysis on samples arriving at PHARMAQ Analytiq UK sites according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform preventative maintenance.
- Implementing good laboratory practices and participate in development of SOPs and HSE plans for the laboratory operations.
- Analysis of results, preparation of reports and communicating with clients.
- Maintain laboratory consumables and orders
- Maintain laboratory data and records including notebooks and online data
- Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned.
- Contribute to assay development, validation, and QC analysis.
- Sample storage, retention, and basic lab tasks to maintain and track samples
- The post holder is expected to deal with non-routine situations and extra workloads due to third party requests for research and monitoring.
- The post holder is expected to act on problem solving solutions presented by the line manager
- To comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and notify line management of any potential breaches.
- The post holder will be expected to perform any other duties which may be delegated from time to time by the line manager or other senior staff, including assistance in bacteriology and histopathology labs.
- Update records of equipment, events, processes and deviations on our quality system, VIS.
- Contribute to training of internship students and new junior staff on various diagnostic techniques.
Be organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. - Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Have a positive, can-do attitude, solution-oriented and flexible.
- Have the ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as appropriate.
- Understand and apply basic scientific techniques and biosafety rules.
- Have relevant experience in molecular biology laboratory work environment.
- Have a good ability to set up molecular reactions, specifically PCR.
- Have good analytical skills.
- Have good English skills, both in writing and orally.
- Be flexible and able to work for extended hours-if required., BSc in biology, molecular biology, aquaculture, veterinary medicine or equivalent subject area. Postgraduates' studies are bonus.
- 1-2 years' experience working in diagnostic laboratories is preferable.
- Experience in nucleic acid extraction, PCR analysis, sequencing is preferable.
- Experience in microbiology and histopathology labs is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Previous experience working in aquaculture or fish health is an advantage but not mandatory.
