Post Title:              Director of Primary Care and GP Out of Hours Service

Grade:                    Agenda for Change Band 9 (* Pay Award Pending)

Salary range:         £111,595 - £116,428 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Tenure:                   Permanent

Hours:                    Full time (37 hours)

The Director of Primary Care & GP Out of Hours will be responsible for leading the programme of primary care transformation across all independent contractor services, working with our key stakeholders to deliver the necessary transformation of our primary care services and workforce. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) recently approved their first Primary Care Strategy.  The Director will have overall responsibility for the implementation plan and driving performance improvements and new ways of working across NHSGGC. 

There is a substantial change programme in terms of both scale and complexity across the six HSCPs in NHSGGC, 225 GP practices and a wide range of community services and professional groups.  The post holder will oversee Primary Care Contracts - General Medical and Ophthalmic, as well as the implementation and provision of our new service model for GP Out of Hours services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde ensuring that these are delivered to the required quality and standards and in turn support the primary care transformation programme.    

Accountable to multiple stakeholders including NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the six Integrated Joint Boards and professional advisory committees.  This will require you to develop a shared strategic direction, priorities, and collective accountability, supported by the governance arrangements of multi partner oversight groups.

The extended Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) is now an established part of core general practice provision, with particular progress and investment on those areas with an associated commitment to change in responsibility for service delivery 1) Pharmacotherapy 2) Vaccination and 3) Community Treatment and Care (CTAC). The post holder will have a key role in the MDT.

Key strategic connections include Moving Forward Together, winter planning, unscheduled care, vaccination programme and Mental Health strategy. The post holder will have a major influential role in providing strategic direction, governance, and assurance for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.  

The post holder will be expected to attend the Corporate Management Team (CMT) as and when required and attend NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Board meetings to provide advice on issues related to the delivery of primary care services when required. 

Qualities and experience required for this post include an ability to work as part of a whole system with other directors and evidence of strategic thinking applied to organisational achievement. 

Demonstrable strategic and operational experience at Corporate Management team level in a complex healthcare system is required. Detailed understanding of health and social care best practice and policy and have national credibility in your field with excellent oral and written communication skills is essential.
