Director of Risk, Assurance and Remediation

Reporting directly to the Life COO, this role is a key member of the COO leadership team helping to set and drive and deliver the COO strategy across Life.

A PAC (Prudential Assurance Company)/Life wide role, the Director of Risk, Assurance and Remediation role is responsible for;

  • Responsible for Governance & Oversight Assurance across M&G Life for all 3rd party suppliers

  • Responsible for Operational Resilience across M&G Life including reporting and managing overall adherence to specific regulatory requirement, To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G plc operational risk

  • To lead the development and communication of the 1st Line Risk, Assurance and Remediation strategy and associated policies across UK Business in line with M&G Life and COO strategies and policies

  • Lead the operational oversight of M&G Life/PAC outsource partners management of risk through strong influencing & negotiation, pragmatic decision making and inspiring others to deliver in a collaborative environment

  • To ensure there is alignment to M&G policies and manuals (e.g. SYSC and GGM) and influencing adherence to compliance across the UK Business

  • Timely reporting and mitigation of risks identified working with colleagues in 1st/2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence

  • Pull upon multiple sources of insight, data, experience and journey performance analytics to ensure the risk profile is maintained and operated within risk appetite. Where profile does not meet appetite, lead and influence discussions to invoke the relevant remediation plans


  • To develop, own and maintain a supplier relationship management policy, framework and procedures for the M&G business

  • Accountable for oversight of the risk profile within M&G Life and outsourced partners and provide a holistic independent opinion

  • Collaborate with senior leaders in M&G and Outsourced Partners to ensure they understand and fulfil their roles and responsibilities for management of operational and regulatory risk

  • Act as point of escalation for all matters relating to Risk within M&G and its outsourced partners

  • Working alongside colleagues from Risk, Audit, Legal and Compliance ensuring that the business has satisfactory controls which protect our customers

    Significant experience of working in a commercial environment and understanding the broad operating context of the business and how to add value

  • Significant experience of building relationships and influencing a range of senior level internal and external stakeholders

  • Expert knowledge of commercial aspects of SRM across strategic categories, including working with internal stakeholders (BCMs) and external suppliers


  • Expert knowledge of SRM best practice, good network/links with external bodies and individuals in SRM management across other industries

  • Expert level knowledge of effective operational risk management, frameworks and oversight within a financial service environment

  • Expert knowledge of risk mitigation techniques and internal controls

  • Strong network (internal and external) covering operational and regulatory risk requirements

  • Expert stakeholder management skills with the ability to managing competing priorities and business objectives

  • Expert analytical skills with the ability to cut through information and draw out key trends / insight to support the development and improvement the management of SRM
