As a Discipline Manger based in Glasgow, your role encompasses leading the implementation of processes, tools and governance within the OME Algorithms team. Reporting to the Head of Specialities Engineering, your responsibilities extend to managing personnel and enhancing the competencies of the team members. This position demands strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively guide the team, facilitate continuous improvement, and provide support for individual professional growth. You will also be instrumental in driving the team's performance and maintaining a conducive and productive work environment. In this role, effective leadership and communication skills are essential, as you will be responsible for driving the team's performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and providing guidance and support to team members as they work towards their professional development goals. This is an excellent opportunity to evolve and grow your competencies within leadership and people management across a growing function, as well as provide a valuable contribution to the Technical Specialities team as a whole in OME.,

  • Deploy the adequate Practices and Tools tailored to reach the required maturity according to Project/Product delivery challenges
  • Work with the discipline delivery team to make them efficient - identify gaps and associated actions to support continuous improvement
  • Encourage adoption of new technologies and tools
  • Capitalise and share knowledge and assets
  • Allocate Subject Matter Experts and enable coaching within the team
  • Manage and develop individual and collective team skills & ensure allocation of people to products / projects
  • Contribute to bids and project peer reviews, reducing technical/engineering risks and increasing confidence to deliver

    You will be an experienced people manager who has led complex multi-disciplinary teams defining the processes, practices and tools to be used in order to deliver an engineering solutions to meet the needs of projects and customers. You will have a track record of developing people as well as have experience leading teams through change and continuous improvement.
  • You will have significant experience in team management, ideally possessing knowledge of Engineering, Technical or Defence environments.
  • You will have gained knowledge and/or experience in understanding complex engineering solutions, including the engineering development lifecycle. Knowledge/experience of Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Technologies, Mathematics and/or Statistics would be advantageous
  • You want to bring innovation through collaborative and multidisciplinary teams by integrating the scientific approach into an engineering system methodology
  • You will know how to adopt a Lean Management approach and apply Agile principles to the management and development of your team, in Scrum and / or Kanban mode.
  • You are a leader willing to engage and develop your team through the use of collaborative work and challenging approaches
  • You love to share knowledge and help people develop themselves, which enables you to be recognised as a great mentor and team-player

Our Glasgow Optronics teams design and manufacture a diverse range of Electro-Optical products including Thermal Imagers, Laser Rangefinders & Designators, Vehicle Sighting Systems and Submarine Periscopes & Optronics Masts.
