Full time 37 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the mainland community nursing teams for a full-time District Nurse Specialist Practitioner. Applications are invited from experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals who are able to demonstrate a breadth of knowledge and experience in the areas of practice detailed within The Scottish Government Transforming Roles paper.

The post holder will have accountability for the caseload management and care coordination of highly complex patients in a remote and rural area.  They should have leadership experience and demonstrate highly developed team working and interpersonal qualities. Applicants should possess a range of clinical assessment skills including history taking and physical examination and should be a Community Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescriber.  Applicants should demonstrate an ability to contribute to a positive learning environment, ensuring learning opportunities for staff and students.

Orkney is a welcoming, friendly place in which to live and work. We enjoy spectacular natural surroundings and a rich cultural heritage. Lying off the northern coast of Scotland, between John OGroats and the Shetland Isles, Orkney is an archipelago of over 70 beautiful islands, 17 of which are inhabited.

The excellent ferry and air connections make travel to the Scottish mainland, Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Shetland, and even Norway quite easy. There is a rich archaeological history to be explored, as well as many outdoor pursuits, including diving in Scapa Flow, kayaking, walking, cycling, bird watching, and many more.

It is essential that the post holder has access to transport and if driving themselves, should hold a full driving licence.   If by virtue of a disablement, an applicant has the qualifications to perform the post but cannot drive, then the possibility of adjustments to arrange transport will be considered.
