Full Job Description

We have an exciting opening in our DMWS Scotland Team working in partnership with NHS Dumfries and Galloway. Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of people who have served in the armed forces and their families? We are looking for someone with a strong connection to the Armed Forces community, preferably a veteran with experience of supporting people with mental health issues. This person will deliver non-clinical mental health Peer Support Services to veterans. This will involve providing regular contact opportunities with someone the veteran can identify with, who understands their needs and anxieties and who has the professional training and awareness to help steer them on a path to wellness, help prevent crisis escalation, to access appropriate support and to tackle the wider non-clinical issues impacting on their wellbeing. DMWS is working with NHS Dumfries and Galloway to put in place an effective and supportive mental health and wellbeing pathway for veterans. This is a new service, and the initial contract length is 12 months, with the possibility of extension thereafter. DMWS is an international charity that has been providing medical welfare support to the Armed Forces Community for over 80 years. We support all members of the Armed Forces Community across the services, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their family members/carers. This includes the Merchant Navy. Healthcare professionals can achieve significant improvements in physical and mental health issues, but often there can be other challenges that someone in the Armed Forces Community faces that can inhibit their recovery. Mental health concerns, drivers behind substance abuse, social isolation, inappropriate housing, homelessness, or financial worries can affect someone's health. DMWS tackles these non-clinical issues that can negatively impact on recovery and overall wellbeing., To apply please submit a CV and covering letter explaining why you would be a good fit for the role. Please remember to click on 'upload' otherwise we may not receive your attachments. Applicants must hold a full UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle which is required for this role. Applications will be considered as they are submitted. DMWS reserve the right to close the application process early and feedback will only be provided to candidates who attend interviews.

We offer employees the following benefits: -

  • Annual Leave: We give employees 30 days a year annual leave plus Public Holidays (pro-rata'd for part-time employees).
