A rare opportunity has a risen for a full time, Band 6 Emergency Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Department at Borders General Hospital. A qualification in Minor Injuries is essential and Non-medical prescribing is desirable with an expectation that if not already achieved, then this can be worked towards whilst in post.

The ENPs at Borders General Hospital are responsible for seeing and treating patients who have accessed the Minor Injuries Appointment Service through NHS 24 and via GP referrals. They are also responsible for seeing and treating patients who self present directly to the Emergency Department.

Teamwork is vital in this role as is the ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload, whilst working within a small team of other Emergency Nurse Practitioners. In addition, the ability to manage both Minor Injury Appointments and self presenting attendees, are skills required for this post.

Clinical Support is always available from Emergency Department Speciality Drs and Orthopaedic Drs based within the Hospital.

Training and development consists of in house training from various specialities and also for external courses relevant to this post.

This post is day shift and includes weekend work with a variety of shift patterns, but for a full-time employee, will consist mainly of 11.5 hour shifts.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
