Full Job Description

We're looking for an Employment Adviser to join our regional team representing doctors across Yorkshire. This is a Trade Union case officer role and the successful candidate will be responsible for representing and advising our members on matters arising from their employment, including face to face representation when required. The successful candidate will be motivated and driven in their delivery of maximising outcomes for, and defending the interests of doctors at work. This role is home-based, permanent and part time for 34 hours per week. The non working day is flexible and can be discussed at interview.

If you have previous demonstrable experience within a Trade Union or equivalent expertise gained elsewhere (i.e. an employment law role) and would like the opportunity to represent our members then we'd love to hear from you.,

  • Good knowledge and understanding of employment legislation and how it is applied in the workplace, a sound knowledge of HR practises, and experience of working with the NHS would be an advantage.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of NHS employment structures and major NHS issues, together with an understanding of the role and function of the BMA.
  • Good analytical skills
  • Sensitivity and skills in facilitation to enable members to find their own solutions to workplace issues with your guidance.
  • An ability to deal with members problems sensitively and difficult situations both tactfully and confidentially.
  • Proven experience of case management and managing a high volume of cases
  • Experience of recruiting new members to an organisation and or a willingness to do so.
  • Strong relationship building skills and a commitment to supporting your wider Team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident presentation skills
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Previous experience and knowledge of working within a Trade Union would be an advantage, either as an employed official or an elected representative
  • A commitment to the Trade Union movement.
  • As the role is covering Yorkshire as part of a team, it is a requirement for the successful applicant to be based within the patch to attend meetings when required. A full UK driving license/access to a car is also required. All our Employment Advisers are home-based and all IT equipment will be provided
