Full Job Description

Working within the Housing and Homelessness Directorate as an Empty Homes Officer you will be involved in developing the Council's strategic approach to private sector empty homes.

This post offers the opportunity to assist in developing a high quality empty homes service and develop our empty homes strategy and we are seeking someone who can contribute new ideas, approaches and develop initiatives to achieve positive outcomes.

These outcomes should focus on increasing housing supply and contribute to improve private sector housing conditions in Edinburgh.

Working in partnership with other council services and external agencies the Empty Homes Officer will investigate, monitor, and report on the number of empty and second homes brought back into use and target any enforcement action to meet the Council's strategic approach to meeting housing need.

The role is varied and involves developing strategies to support the Council's proactive approach to minimising the number of empty homes in the city, providing regular updates on progress to a variety of stakeholders.

The role also involves helping to manage and resolve complex, long-term empty homes cases at an operational level.

If you are someone who enjoys new opportunities, taking on challenges and building positive relationships, we would love to hear from you.

This post is subject to a basic disclosure check.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
