Job Description

Environmental Health Officer PKC12158
£44,223 - £47,170
Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth PH1 5GD

In Perth & Kinross, we're ambitious for our residents and the people who work here, for our services and the people who provide them, and for our communities and partners.

To help us to deliver upon our plans and aspirations, we are recruiting 1 FTE Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health Team.

As one of the largest authorities in Scotland we want to ensure our communities and our local environment is safe and attractive places to live, work, visit and invest.

The substantive office base is Pullar House, Kinnoull Street, Perth, PH1 5GD but the post will operate on a hybrid working arrangement as part of the Environmental Health team responsible for the efficient delivery and administration of all pollution control, public health and general environmental health related functions covering both urban and rural environments within Perth & Kinross.

The main duties of the post include undertaking the investigation of general nuisance and housing issues on a reactive basis, responding to statutory planning consultations, assisting with air quality duties, the investigation of public health complaints, including infectious diseases, and assisting in the development of policies and strategies. You may also be required to undertake other functions and roles at a similar level, depending on service demand.

The work pattern is 36 hours per week and flexible working is offered.

For purposes of connection and collaboration with colleagues and with the community we serve, our full-time employees work on site for a minimum of 2 days per week with the arrangements for part time employees being agreed on a basis which will ensure that they benefit to an equivalent degree. Our FAQs on hybrid working can be found here Hybrid working FAQs. We are committed to being a more inclusive employer - to ensure we can consider any reasonable adjustments, please either contact the recruiting manager to discuss any individual circumstances, discuss at interview or, if you prefer, after any conditional offer is made.

Requirements

You will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer and hold the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, or its equivalent.

However, we would welcome applications from recently qualified EHO's (including degree qualified students who are sitting their professional examinations imminently) who are looking to start their career with a local authority offering a variety of environmental health work.

Ideally, you must have a sound knowledge of current pollution control, public health and environmental protection and ideally be able to demonstrate experience in pollution control work or environmental health. However training will be provided in any areas required.

In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills. You must have a valid driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.

You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
