Full Job Description

MM Search are delighted to be retained once again by a key client to search for an Estimator with a strong background in either distillation or alternatively oil and gas industries.


The successful candidate will play a critical role in project acquisition, working closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to develop competitive and compliant bids. The role focuses on small-scale civil and mechanical installations, piping, and fabrication projects.

 

Our client based near Edinburgh is a specialist engineering firm who provide a range of pipeline and process engineering services across industries such as oil and gas, renewables, brewing, distilling, and food and drink. Their expertise includes mechanical pipeline solutions, welding, fabrication, heat exchanger servicing, and more. Offering on-site services like flange integrity management, pressure testing, and in-situ machining. They aim to improve operational efficiency and extend asset lifespans for their clients. The company has grown significantly since its founding in 2018 and is expanding its workforce to meet increasing demand

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bid Preparation and Submission: Lead the preparation of bids, ensuring they are well-structured, competitive, and align with client specifications. Collaborate with project engineer to gather technical and financial inputs.

  • Cost Estimation: Develop detailed cost estimates for projects, including materials, labour, and overheads. Evaluate the financial feasibility and ensure the bid maximizes value for both the end client and the business.

  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with projects and incorporate mitigation strategies into the bid. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Engage with clients to understand project requirements and address any technical or commercial queries. Build and maintain relationships with international stakeholders, leveraging global project experience.

  • Market Analysis and Strategy: Monitor market trends within the distillation and oil and gas sectors to identify new business opportunities. Contribute to the development of bid strategies and pricing models.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of bid submissions, costs, and client feedback. Provide regular updates to senior management on bid progress and outcomes.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in the oil and gas or distillation industries, with exposure to piping, fabrication, and installation projects.

  • Strong track record in preparing and managing bids, including cost estimation and risk assessment.

  • Familiarity with civil and mechanical engineering principles related to piping systems and fabrication. Experience of working on international projects is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

On offer is a basic salary in the banding of £42,000 to £55,000 depending on level of industry experience. The role does not require to be onsite every day, however we would expect the successful candidate to be onsite daily for the initial few weeks for training and onboarding.
