Full Job Description

Balfour Beatty is excited to offer an opportunity for an Estimator to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based in Derby. The successful candidate will primarily focus on estimating for projects related to Power Cabling up to 400kV, but may also work on other workstreams across Power T&D's client portfolio.,

  • Ensure tenders are submitted in accordance with client requirements, meeting content, format, and timescale expectations.
  • Produce accurate, competitive, error-free, and thoroughly researched tenders in a standard format, while maintaining estimating files and records in compliance with Gated Lifecycle, Bid Governance, and Audit requirements.
  • Provide pre- and post-contract estimating services, supporting profit, quality, and service objectives through collaboration with strategy & business development, commercial, operational, procurement, finance, insurance, and legal teams, ensuring clear understanding of client tender requirements.
  • The role is based at our central hub in Derby or our Motherwell office in Maxim Park. We will also consider remote working for the right candidate. What you'll be doing
  • Adhere to the Gated Lifecycle process.
  • Comply with Bid Governance processes, including producing bid governance papers and templates as required for bid reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with the Balfour Beatty Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure estimating files are produced and maintained in line with Gated Lifecycle, Bid Governance, and Audit requirements.
  • Manage subcontract and supplier enquiries as needed to support tender submissions.
  • Build up estimates for tender submissions in an error-free standard format, ensuring all tenders include a risk & opportunity register.
  • Ensure a seamless handover from estimating to commercial, operational, procurement, and finance teams during the contract handover and startup process.
  • Understand and apply corporate governance standards and ensure consistent measures are followed.
  • Review and distribute tender documentation received from clients to the relevant teams, including attending client tender briefings, raising formal tender queries, and disseminating responses and revisions to tender documents.
  • Conduct risk grading of tender opportunities in accordance with Gated Lifecycle and Bid Governance processes, ensuring all tenders have an appropriate risk & opportunity register.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with existing and prospective clients, identifying opportunities for future business growth and optimisation.
  • Ensure all data used in tender build-ups is current and relevant, such as labour and plant rates applicable to the delivery period.

    Experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of Risk & Opportunity analysis.
  • Good financial acumen with the ability to accurately analyse complex data and documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with forms of contract (e.g., NEC + options, FIDIC).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate effectively with senior executive teams and clients.
  • Proficient in general IT applications such as Word and Excel, and standard estimating software (e.g., CANDY), Disability Confident
