30.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, Fixed Term to 10 August 2025

Broxburn Academy is a six-year comprehensive school serving the areas of Broxburn, Uphall, Uphall Station, Pumpherston and Dechmont. We work closely with our cluster primaries which include Broxburn P.S, Kirkhill P.S, Uphaull P.S, Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community P.S and Dechmont Infant School to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.

Our current school roll is 884.

We are looking for a Family Link Worker to contribute to providing a safe, secure and inclusive school environment.

The post holder will be an integral part of the team supporting young people’s wellbeing in school. The post entails working closely with a targeted group of young people facing barriers to attendance and their families to secure a long-term, sustainable improvement in school attendance which will lead to improved wellbeing, attainment and achievement, and a positive destination.

Principal Accountabilities/Key Tasks

  • Build strong relationships and maintain daily contact with targeted young people on the caseload and their families to ensure regular attendance at school
  • Ensure that attendance of this group is accurately recorded, tracked and monitored each day in line with West Lothian Council policy and that any required follow up actions are taken on a daily basis to ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people on the caseload
  • Support young people day to day with their personal and social development skills with the aim of ensuring continued good attendance
  • Work alongside other professionals in the Child’s Planning Process. Retain accurate records in accordance with current policies.
  • Lead/facilitate/participate in group work to support school work and/or social and emotional development, as directed by the Head teacher
  • Support re-integration to school following short or long periods of absence
  • Support families to help them become more engaged and involved with school/education, including understanding the many long-term benefits of regular attendance at school
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge of local resources, providers of services and practical supports for young people and their families and signpost these where appropriate.
  • Liaise closely with partner providers including community groups, education partners, health professionals and voluntary organisations regarding interventions and supports planned for young people on the caseload
  • Contribute to family learning programmes run by the school with the aim of improving attendance, wellbeing, attainment and achievement for the caseload
  • Report at regular intervals to the Senior Leadership Team on the attendance of the caseload and progress towards agreed targets
  • Undertake appropriate training to ensure knowledge and understanding and skills are current, regularly refreshed and updated.
  • Provide services consistent with the Children (Scotland) Act, 1995, other relevant legislation and West Lothian Council's policies, procedures and standards.

 

This position requires registration with the SSSC.  The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
