Full Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Field Engineer to join our Traffic Scotland Infrastructure Contract account. This role can be based in central Scotland and will include regular daily travel within the North area of Scotland and occasional visits will be required at our TSIC depot in Cumbernauld, Glasgow.
Our TSIC account is working in partnership with Traffic Scotland on behalf of Transport for Scotland since 2004. We are responsible for operating, maintaining, and upgrading the motorway and trunk road technology infrastructure across the whole of Scotland.
With over 12,000 intelligent transport system (ITS) assets across Scotland our teams operate and maintain variable messaging signs, CCTV, emergency roadside telephones (ERTs) and various power and communication cabinets.
In addition to this, we manage and maintain hundreds of miles of the motorway and trunk road network across Scotland, as well as providing key consultancy services such as asset management, design services and environmental management.
Our focus is on delivering reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.
The Field Engineer plays an important part in co-ordinating and supervising the Maintenance Technician teams, supporting them to undertake planned and reactive maintenance work on highways control technology installations throughout Scotland. This includes CCTV, traffic monitoring units, variable message signs, emergency telephones and other in-station and out-station equipment, mainly motorway based.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday Friday (Apply online only).
You will be responsible for:
+ Co-ordinating and supervising teams undertaking inspections and diagnostic checks on highways control technology and electrical assets in line with planned and reactive maintenance.
+ Undertaking electronic diagnostic checks on highways communications assets in line with reactive maintenance.
+ Preparation of reports and documents as necessary.
+ Providing accurate advice to relevant parties on highways communications equipment and procedures.
+ Undertaking toolbox talks and issuing team briefings.
+ Coordinating with third parties with the introduction of new highways communications infrastructure.
+ Assisting with project administration and controls.
What makes this role unique is that you will form part of a multi-disciplinary team providing frontline maintenance services to ensure availability and safety of operation of Transport Scotland roadside technology assets on Scottish motorways and trunk roads.
We want to hear from you if you are competent in the use of hand/powered tools and test equipment required to maintain, test and re-commission systems.

Ideally you will have a national certificate in an electronic / electrical discipline, and vocational qualifications in the electrotechnical or telecommunications field with a valid driving license.
In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have field installation and servicing role to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
