Full Job Description

Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be engaged by a market leading organisation to recruit a Finance Business Partner Capital Projects based in Glasgow. The role will report to the Group Financial Controller and will be responsible for managing the end-to-end accounting process for the business' capital projects. The role is offering a 15-month fixed term contract and a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as hybrid working.

The Opportunity

As a Finance Business Partner Capital Projects, you will ensure the accurate measurement of the company's project financial performance on a regular basis. You will coach project managers to understand the financial life cycle of their projectsfrom the tendering process to completionproviding support and constructive challenges as needed. Additionally, you will lead and oversee various financial projects, with a specific focus on reviewing and delivering commercial and process improvements.

The role will include:

  • Assist Project Managers with full project accounting from initiation to completion, taking ownership of the financial systems required.
  • Produce monthly profit and loss reports for projects, and support Project Managers in preparing monthly variance reports comparing actuals to budgets and forecasts.
  • Improve the measurement of project profitability during the tender/feasibility stage and maximise project management fees and the recovery of ScotRail costs.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly PL, Capex forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Support the preparation of business cases for board approval on major projects and capital expenditure.
  • Educate and encourage staff to take greater responsibility for the financial aspects of their projects and the overhead costs they incur.
  • Establish key policy documentation and serve as the primary point of contact for Project Managers on capitalisation matters.
  • Provide professional judgement on financial matters for projects, offering advice on ways to improve business performance.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller to develop an annual work plan, focusing on business scorecard metrics and key strategic priorities. This programme will drive commercial efficiency and include cross-functional change projects, with outcomes presented to the Director team.
  • Assist the Finance Controller with any ad hoc requests.

Background Experience

We are keen to speak to individuals with the following profile:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACAS/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Strong CAPEX / Capital Project Accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)
  • Ability to take a strategic and commercial approach, creating solutions aligned with company strategy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, across all levels
  • IT proficient with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
