Finance Officer Salary : £25,000 - £27,000 per annum pro-rata
Hours : 21 hours per week (Wednesday - Friday 9am - 5pm)
Job Description
Principal duties and responsibilities
- Keeping accurate records of all daily transactions.
- Developing and implementing financial policies and procedures.
- Monitoring budgets and financial forecasts.
- Generating financial reports monthly, quarterly and at year end.
- Assisting with budget preparation.
- Participating in financial audits.
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Preparation of VAT returns.
- Update internal systems with financial data.
Accounting Functions
- Process and payment of invoices and claim forms.
- Reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts.
- Petty cash payments and reconciliation.
- Tracking bank deposits and payments.
- Credit card processing and reconciliation.
- Issue and receipting of invoices.
- Ensure the accounting records and book of accounts are kept up-to-date and are in accordance with SNIPEF’s chart of accounts
Reporting and Financial Statements
- Assist in the preparation of financial plans, budgets, agendas and forecasts.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end financial accounts for audit and liaise with the Auditors.
- Preparation of VAT and Certification Officer Return.
Financial Controls and Risk Management
- Ensure regular banking of income and update status of payments and receipts
- Provide monthly bank, sales and purchase reconciliations
- Adhere to SNIPEF’s financial policies and procedures.
- Support and develop new tools and systems to strengthen financial controls and risk.
- Ensure that cheque books, purchase order books, invoices and others are well accounted for.
General
- Work effectively with colleagues and provide advice to achieve SNIPEF's aims and objectives.
- Keep abreast of current accounting best practices.
- Professionally and positively represent the organisation at all times.
- Undertake training, as necessary, for your department's and the business's needs.
- Take responsibility for your safety and the safety of other members of staff who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
- Internally promote and support a team environment within the Finance department and SNIPEF.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Undertake any other duties and reasonable requests that are in keeping with the nature of this post.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with data protection law.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a pleasant telephone manner
- Experience with Microsoft Office: Excel/Word/Outlook
- Ability to multitask and work accurately and effectively under pressure
- Able to work on own initiative
- Able to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Have a proactive and flexible attitude
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience following financial controls and procedures
- Experience with accounting packages.
