Full Job Description

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be exclusively engaged by a growing business to appoint a Financial Accountant. The position is based at the company's brand-new HQ in central Glasgow; however, the company itself has a national footprint. The business has grown significantly in the last few years, and this position represents a key hire as the continued growth requires further support from its high-performing finance function.


In this position, you will work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant to prepare on financial statement preparation, month end close and tax.

The Financial Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting within the organisation. This position involves the preparation of statutory accounts, corporation tax calculations, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial accounting, coupled with experience in corporation tax.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare statutory financial statements in compliance with FRS102
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring all financial data is accurately recorded
  • Support the annual audit process by providing required documentation and explanations to external auditors
  • Assist with calculating deferred tax and prepare FRS102 tax disclosure notes for inclusion in financial statements
  • Assist with quarterly corporation tax payments on account calculations, ensuring timely and accurate submissions
  • Review the monthly transactions that impact the corporation tax workings to ensure all workbooks are up to date
  • Assist with preparing quarterly VAT returns for the Group, ensuring compliance with VAT regulations
  • Notify HMRC of any opting-to-tax decisions and ensure proper documentation is maintained
  • Assist with calculating corporation tax provisional figures for inclusion in statutory accounts, with finalisation by external tax advisors
  • Coordinate with other departments, suppliers, and external tax advisors to prepare capital allowance claims

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of, or working towards a professional qualification such as ICAS, ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CTA or ATT
  • Strong experience in financial accounting, with a proven track record in the preparation of statutory accounts
  • Experience in corporation tax calculations and FRS102 disclosure requirements
  • Proficient in financial software and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work with large datasets, and to work effectively under pressure
