Full Job Description

Hutcheon Mearns are supporting an exciting new JV organisation to source a Financial Controller on a 6 month contract basis. This organisation is involved in carbon capture and storage on a large scale and will remove 50% of the UK's industrial cluster CO2 emissions. They are actively bringing together communities, business, industry and academia to deliver the carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure needed to decarbonise this key industrial area of the UK.

The Opportunity

This would be a varied and challenging role which would offer the successful candidate fantastic experience in an exciting sector.

  • Delivery of end-to-end monthly financial reporting
  • Support design and implementation of an effective and fit for purpose internal control environment within the JV
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies and input into the development of the companies accounting policies
  • Review Actuals and forecasts and follow-up on identified issues to resolution.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate statutory reporting for the assigned JVs and managing external audit activities
  • Develop reports for MI and cost control while working with the Outsourced Service Provider (OSP) and project controls team
  • Review and assure monthly/quarterly reports provided by the OSP
  • Manage day to day banking activities for the assigned JV and work with the project financing advisor to ensure that payments are in line with the project financing agreements
  • Work effectively with wider JV finance and project teams, shareholder representatives and other functional support teams

Background and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Prior experience ideally in the areas of financial reporting, internal controls and/or management accounting
  • Self-starter, able to use initiative, drive solutions through uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Strong influencing, commercial and business partnering skills
  • Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a track record of delivery
