Full Job Description

Thornton Golf Club is seeking to recruit an experienced Financial Controller to undertake the management of the financial activities of the Club. This part-time role, 20 hours per week, will require a highly motivated and conscientious individual who has proven experience in managing the financial affairs of a small business. The job holder will report in the first instance to the Treasurer/Secretary and ultimately the Club’s Management Committee.

Situated in the heart of Fife and founded in 1921, Thornton Golf Club is a Par 70, tree lined parkland golf course. 

The role includes the following responsibilities:

·      Maintaining the financial records of the Club through input to the Sage accounting system and the production of a monthly management accounts.

·      Preparing annual budgets and monitoring actual financial performance against budget.

·      Liaising with the Club Treasurer/Secretary on important administrative and financial matters.

·      Managing payroll, PAYE and VAT returns.

·      Managing and controlling all daily cash and banking transactions.

·      Managing cash flow ensuring compliance with banking covenants.

·      Arranging payment of all suppliers.

·      Liaising with the Treasurer/Secretary on subscription collection from members.

·      Liaising with the Club Professional on the collection and recording of visitor income.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent management and administrative skills.
  • Strong IT skills with a knowledge of accounting, VAT, payroll and club management systems and software.
  • A flexible approach to working hours.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage in a friendly and professional manner with members, visitors, suppliers and sponsors
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, progressive individual with a high standard of work, a keen eye for detail and a “can do” attitude.
