What you'll do

As Financial Controller, your team will be responsible for the daily P&L and monthly balance sheet reporting for the bank’s trading desks which sit within NatWest Markets. This will help the bank to effectively manage its trading position, demonstrate strong daily controls and enable management of market risk.

We’ll expect you to bring relevant commercial insight and lead a team to deliver within SLA a full set of high quality and consistently accurate financial, statutory, regulatory and management reporting outputs. Your team will be responsible for the analysis, production and review of the daily P&L production for trading books, ensuring that P&L drivers are understood and that front office queries are addressed in a timely manner. 

Through the course of your work, you’ll:

  • Ensure the integrity of monthly, quarterly and annual financial information, including balance sheet, profit and loss account, internal and external reporting and other supporting data, in collaboration with auditors, middle office, front office, tax and credit teams 
  • Lead and ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of the business’s controls
  • Help shape the strategy and operating model for financial control for the business area supported, with the overriding objective of establishing and maintaining the trust and confidence of the key customers and stakeholders
  • Act as a member of the Finance Transaction Control Leadership team, challenging how we do things and leading change to support the Global Process Owner model
  • Act as the key customer relationship manager between the business area and other teams, ensuring provision of sound analytical reviews, challenges and analysis
  • Create a team culture of ongoing improvement and provide leadership on continuous improvement projects as well as mandatory and discretionary projects to automate and streamline finance transaction control activities

The skills you'll need


To succeed in this role, you’ll bring extensive post-qualification experience in a finance environment, preferably in financial services with experience in capital markets and daily P&L reporting. You’ll have experience of working at a senior leadership level, with multiple reporting lines across a global matrix environment. We’ll also look for the ability to facilitate optimal use of key finance technologies such as Oracle.

We’ll also look to you to bring:

  • Experience of providing senior management and executives with detailed financial information
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly and succinctly articulate issues
  • Experience of evaluating and implementing improvements using automation and AI tools
