Full Job Description

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. In this role you will be working as part of the Central Quality Management Team, responsible for the maintenance of forensic quality standards across the forces. You will utilise your knowledge of quality standards and regulation (e.g. BS EN ISO/IEC 17025, Forensic Science Regulator's Code of Practice) to ensure compliance across various units within Surrey and Sussex Police, working closely with operational teams such as CSIs, Digital Forensics, Fingerprints etc. You will work as part of a team to develop a culture of quality, influencing peers and police managers around quality requirements and compliance. You will receive in-house training around the role and the Quality Management System used. As part of the Quality Management Team, you will actively manage the Quality Management System for the force, ensuring adherence to key supporting activities such as auditing, investigation into non-conforming work and document reviews. You will work with the team to actively promote continual improvement opportunities both with operational units and the wider Quality Management System.

  • Relevant scientific degree or recent experience working within a quality environment (policing or laboratory), Thorough knowledge of relevant regulatory guidance including BS EN ISO/IEC 17025, BS EN ISO/IEC 17020 and the Forensic Science Regulator's Code of Practice
  • Excellent communication skill with the ability to explain complex/technical information to people of all levels
  • Excellent written communication skills including clear and concise documented procedures and processes for others to follow
  • Proven ability to manage a high workload and prioritise work accordingly often with tight deadlines
  • Experience of auditing processes
  • Good knowledge of IT software tools including Microsoft Office programs

    This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
  • Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions. Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.
