We are looking for a Garage Supervisor to join our small garage team and are seeking applications from suitably qualified or experienced persons.
As Garage Supervisor you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, development and cost-effective operation of the repair depot and will support and assist in the development and implementation of the strategy for Vehicle Maintenance services as part of Fleet Services. The garage looks after all Orkney Islands Council vehicles and so you will be required to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with all other Service areas that use and operate Council vehicles.
Responsible for the small team of Garage Mechanics, you will provide them with advice, guidance and support in resolving technical issues and problem solving, to ensure that the optimal repair, or part replacement decision, is taken to maximise value for money.
You should have significant experience in working in a workshop environment, together with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of carrying out safety inspections on HGVs, plant, auto electrics, diagnostics, hydraulics, municipal vehicles and fabrication.
A thorough and detailed understanding of Health and Safety requirements in this type of environment is also required.
You should hold a time served qualified and certified mechanical engineering qualification from a recognised body, such as City and Guilds or other relevant body. In addition, you should hold a full driving licence to drive vehicles in the UK under categories CE, C, C1 and C1E (previously Class 1 and 2 HGV licence).
A Drivers CPC and/or certificate of Professional Competence in Transport Management would also be highly desirable.
You will be based at the Council Depot at Hatston, Kirkwall but travel may be required to other depots or operational locations as required.
