Full Job Description

The successful candidate will assist in the investigation, design, planning, procurement and construction management of planned and routine maintenance works on the North-West trunk road network. The post holder will be required to liaise internally with other teams and disciplines to ensure work is delivered efficiently and accurately. Working with external with sub-contractors is a key part of all roles.

Responsibilities and Activities include (but are not restricted to):

Detailed design of trunk road improvements schemes
Compliance with technical and quality standards
Role appropriate knowledge of Design Manual for Road and Bridges
Preparation of Departures from Standard when applicable
Preparation of reports, investigations, studies and options assessments
Prepare cost estimates
Produce preconstruction information and construction packages for both external and in house contractor delivery
Supervise and measure works on site
Follow Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company's Integrated Management Systems
Use Transport Scotland's asset management systems to interrogate asset condition and develop maintenance proposals
Deliver discrete projects within a larger annual programme of work

Skills and knowledge at all levels and holding a degree or post graduate degree in Civil Engineering.

Previous placement experience in similar roles would be beneficial.

The successful candidates will have good team working and communication skills, be flexible and hold a valid driving licence.

BEAR Scotland manage and maintain over 1422km of Scotland's trunk road network in the North West of Scotland for our client, Transport Scotland. We work in some of the most scenic but challenging parts of the country on a variety of trunk road maintenance and improvement schemes. The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

BEAR Scotland's North West Planned and Routine Maintenance Teams are looking for civil engineering staff at all levels to work in our Perth, Stepps or Inverness offices. The roles involve working within either our Planned or Routine Maintenance teams on the investigation, design, procurement and construction of a diverse programme of road maintenance improvements.

The Planned Maintenance team undertakes large programmes of road resurfacing (surfacing, strengthening and rehabilitation) and road markings (lines and studs).

The Routine Maintenance team undertakes a number of wide-ranging activities relating to the management of assets such as drainage, signage and fencing.
