Full Job Description

Eden Scott are proud to be supporting GreenPower with the appointment of a Grid Manager. GreenPower is a renewable energy company, developing, constructing, owning and operating wind, hydro, solar, and green hydrogen projects across the UK. Most assets are owned by GreenPower, with some projects jointly owned with investment funds, and others managed on behalf of third party clients.

 

About the Role:

 

We are seeking to appoint a Grid Manager to play a leading role in grid connections for our projects.

 

The principal responsibility of the Grid Manager will be to secure acceptable grid connection offers and agreements for our projects. These will be at both distribution and transmission level and we have both generation and demand connection requirements. You will be required to be a key member of our development and construction teams.

 

The Grid Manager will lead a range of activities from feasibility studies, to submitting applications, through to the review and interpretation of connection offers, administering the necessary payments and managing the grid connection programme.


Role and Responsibilities:

 

The Grid Manager will be responsible for the following areas of work:

·      The management of the grid connection process for all of GreenPower’s generation / demand projects including but not limited to:

o  Undertaking preliminary assessment of prospects for connection in areas identified by the development team

o  Procure appropriate technical advice using one or more of:

Feasibility study (undertaken by the utility)

Studies performed by an external Technical Advisor

·      The management of the connection application process for solar projects including but not limited to:

o  Distribution connections.

o  Transmission connections.

o  Connections for embedded generators in Scotland requiring BEGA / BELLA.

·      Advisory support to the development & construction teams to:

o  Coordinate the grid connection:

Ensuring that all relevant payments / securities are met and maintained

Ensuring the grid connection milestones are well understood by the development and construction teams and are properly represented in the relevant programmes;

o  Assist, where candidate has relevant experience, with:

Specification of Contestable Works

Tendering for ICP

Coordination of ICP works in collaboration with the Construction Project Manager (“CPM”)

Liaison with the grid utility and CPM to ensure smooth progress to commissioning and timely energisation of grid connection & on-site electrical works

·      Reporting on grid progress, both through written status reports and verbal / graphical presentations at project meetings.

·      Proving support to development project managers providing design and other technical information to support the development of projects and the planning process;

Whilst a significant amount of the work will be desk-based, you will be required to undertake site visits and attend meetings which will include overnight stays and travel both within the UK and, occasionally, overseas. A full driving license is required.

The job will also entail various other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required from time to time as directed by your line manager.


About you:


We are interested to hear from enthusiastic and motivated candidates with relevant experience and qualifications for this role and good inter-personal skills.

We are seeking an experienced professional who should be able to demonstrate a track record of management of grid connections at both distribution and transmission level along with knowledge of the corresponding development and planning processes.

The ideal candidate is degree or higher educated, has direct UK project experience and professional qualifications.

We need an experienced professional engineering / technical manager who will thrive in a dynamic environment, working well under pressure with a keen desire to learn and broaden their experience.

 

Essential Criteria:

 

Required (candidates must meet these criteria to be considered):

 

·      Degree in a relevant discipline: renewables engineering and/or related specialism.

·      Experience with the UK grid system and how it governed in the relationships amongst parties such as the DNO, TO and SO.

·      Experience with all of the processes for application and administration of grid applications at both distribution and transmission levels.

·      Experience of the renewable energy industry.

Track record of the design and preliminary assessment of grid capacity availability at candidate development sites.

·     Experience of how the environmental, technical, and commercial aspects of projects interact.

Experience of project management processes, including planning, budget control and reporting.

Experience of the contractual process for tendering and project delivery and familiarity with at least one industry-standard form of contract.

Knowledge of the role of safety in project design and implementation and how the obligations of the CDM regulations can be met in practice.

Hold a full driving licence.

 

Desirable Criteria(candidates would benefit from meeting these criteria):

 

·      Experience of battery storage and/or hybrid energy systems (design and/or grid requirements).

 

Candidates should also have the following personal attributes and general aptitude:

 

·      Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

·      Proficient use of Windows based IT systems and basic office software such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and PowerPoint.

·      Ability to be self-motivated but a strong collaborator within a team environment.

·      Ability to prioritise work, set and meet targets, and manage time effectively.

·      Smart, professional appearance at all times.

·      An eye for detail and precision.

·      Adaptability and willingness to learn and engage in other areas of the business.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS


Salary:

Negotiable, depending on experience.

Contracted hours:

37.5 hours per week.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm.

From time to time, you may be required to work outwith and/or in excess of your normal working hours. Remuneration for such additional hours is already contained within the salary.

Location of work:

This post will be based at The e-Centre, Cooperage Way, Alloa, FK10 3LP. GreenPower operates a hybrid working policy.

Travel, principally between the Alloa office base and various sites in the UK is required. The nature of this post will require staying away from home on occasions.

Annual leave:

This post carries a holiday entitlement of 25 days personal leave, plus 12 statutory holidays / office closure days per annum.

Sick pay:

Occupational sick pay available.

Pension:

GreenPower operates and auto-enrolment pension scheme with the Employer contribution of 3% of gross salary. This is subject to pension auto-enrolment rules and therefore a small contribution may also be required from employees depending on your applicable salary. Salary sacrifice available.

Private health insurance (with the option to add partner / family members on at a cost). Private health insurance is a benefit in kind and therefore subject to tax.

Responsible to:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering.

Employer:

The post-holder will be employed by GreenPower Developments Ltd.

Offer of employment:

An offer of appointment will be made subject to two satisfactory references and eligibility to work in the UK.
