Hutcheon Mearns is delighted to be supporting an innovative, high-growth technology business to recruit for a Group Accountant to join their small finance team (4) in Dundee. A new role, reporting into the Head of Finance, this position has been created through business growth into new territories and recent implementation of a new accountancy software system. This business specialises in providing technology solutions to enable sustainable and ethical practices in their market. The Opportunity

As the Group Accountant, you will work collaboratively and proactively with stakeholders to provide high quality and accurate financial documentation, primarily around monthly reporting packs, departmental and cost centre reporting as well as RD grant project expenditure. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the preparation and analysis of various financial reports, statements and forecasts. Your ability to support the financial reporting team in their daily tasks will be a crucial component of your success within the team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation and review of intercompany reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and fixed asset reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly reporting packs for management as well as department and cost centres including variance analysis
  • Interrogation of financial data to ensure accuracy and highlight any issues
  • Accruals and prepayments
  • Monitoring and preparing grant claims and preparing consolidated timesheets for RD capitalisation of labour costs
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets
  • Support colleagues in company statutory audit process
  • Support wider team to develop processes, procedures and controls

The Successful Candidate

You will be a Part-qualified or Qualified Accountant and Qualified By Experience may be considered with relevant experience. You will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices - perhaps gained from a training in professional practice. Strong communication skills, a problem solving mentality and ability to work to deadlines, will all be essential skills for this role. Experience using Microsoft Business Central (formerly NAV) would be highly advantageous but not essential.. Strong IT skills and the ability to utilise Microsoft Excel proficiently are required.
