Full Job Description

Hutcheon Mearns is delighted to be engaged on a Group Accountant (UK GAAP) role for an global business based in Edinburgh. The business has sites throughout the globe and is a market leader in its respective field. It is seeking a finalist or newly qualified accountant to fulfil the role of Group Accountant (UK GAAP) and join its talented technical accounting team. The role is offering up to 45,000 - 50,000 per annum + bonus and additional benefits.

The Opportunity

The Group Accountant will report into the Group Reporting Manager and will work closely the wider finance and business as a source of technical accounting knowledge. As Group Accountant, you will be charged with delivering efficient month and year end results in adherence to technical accounting regulation. Moreover, you will be involved in process and controls improvement projects, as well as playing a role in the implementation new accounting regulation where necessary.

This role should be viewed as great opportunity for you to join a high calibre finance team that provide a stellar learning environment and the opportunity to progress through the team - both vertically (within financial reporting) or laterally (into other areas of finance) - following a 18-24 month period of strong performance.

Your role will include:

  • Production of accurate monthly and annual financial statements
  • Maintenance of the balance sheet including reconciliations
  • Support the external audit process acting as a liaison
  • Maintenance and development of internal control and financial policy
  • Support the month end close process including journal entries and adjustments
  • Liaise with colleagues in finance and the wider business as necessary
  • Support projects e.g. systems development, process improvement etc.

Background and Expertise

Our client is keen to speak to individuals with the following profile:

  • Finalist or newly qualified accountant (ICAS, ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in a financial accounting or regulatory role including audit
  • Experience of working in or with large, complex businesses
  • Good knowledge of accounting standards including IFRS and/or FRS102
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
