Full Job Description

The role of the Health & Safety Authority is to enable Network Development to improve performance and reduce risk in their activities. Network Development consists of five business units which develops and delivers Vodafone mobile and fixed line networks.

The Health & Safety Authority role will oversee all operational areas of Network Development, (Planning & Optimisation, Project Management Office, Network Deployment & Connectivity, Infrastructure Management & Deployment and Master Services Agreements) in their Health, Safety and Environment obligations.

The Health & Safety Authority is to provide Subject Matter Expert guidance, identify opportunities for improvement and reduce risk while deploying and delivering a network for Vodafone customers. This role manages the ND Health & Safety Leads and team, as they work with the business units on the opportunities for improvement and implementing change; and also the development of an operational strategic improvement program.

The role is involved in multiple areas activity, supporting Network Development and its business units, which includes the development and implementation of contractual obligations and supporting the assessment and selection of suppliers, to enable Network Development to deliver the network. Also responsible for supporting and guiding other Departments (e.g. NSE) as requested and required by Vodafone stakeholders.

The role is required to manage the governance and performance of Health, Safety and Environmental related items, that relate to the network development. This is done through proactive engagement with the relevant stakeholders within Network Development UK, H&S department of Vodafone, Network Development Vertical, Suppliers, Partners and other relevant external parties.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Leadership team with their focus on safely delivering the Vodafone network

  • Support all areas within Networks on - Planning & Optimisation, Project Management Office, Network Deployment Connectivity, Infrastructure Management Deployment and Master Services Agreement, in their development of the network

  • Support & deliver the Network Core Leadership blueprint

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and reduce risk with development strategic improvement program

  • Support Vodafone Spirit Values

  • Manage H&S governance of suppliers and hold them accountable to legal & contractual duties

  • Lead the Network Development Health and Safety Department resource

  • Manage & conduct H&S incidents for ND operational activities

  • Engage & support SCM / VPC in on-boarding suppliers for ND operational activities

  • Engage with and support Central & Group H&S departments

  • Implement ND Frameworks in support of Group & Local market policies

  • Support & lead RFQ / Contract level engagement / guidance of H&S / legislative items


  • Who You Are
  • Health & Safety Leadership: Leverage over five years of senior health and safety experience to maintain and enhance our safety standards. Conduct safety audits, lead investigations, and implement risk management strategies to foster a culture of safety.

  • Business Management: Utilize your extensive business management knowledge, including budgeting, change management, and resource management. Ensure optimal allocation of resources, lead teams through transitions, and implement new processes with minimal disruption.

  • Industry Expertise: Apply your diverse industry experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, and street works to manage complex projects. Ensure adherence to safety standards, coordinate installations and maintenance operations, and oversee projects in public spaces.

    Minimum of five years of senior health and safety experience.

  • Proven business management skills, including budgeting, change management, and resource management.

  • Extensive industry experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, and street works.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
