Full Job Description

Do you have the experience, passion and drive to support business growth and innovation in Argyll and the Islands?

Join us as the Head of Business Growth and Investment. You'll lead a dedicated team working with ambitious local businesses to shape a sustainable future. Help us make a lasting impact for our area and Scotland's economy.

This is a full time, permanent role based in Lochgilphead, with the option of hybrid working.

You will be responsible for leading the business team, managing high-impact projects, supporting our businesses to reach their full potential and collaborating with partners to drive growth across the region., I initially joined HIE in January 2016 and became Head of Enterprise Support for the Outer Hebrides in 2022.

What does your job involve?
A phenomenal variety! My role involves building client relationships; helping businesses grow, expand, develop new products and innovate.

I lead a team of development managers, develop and implement regional and area strategy, and I'm the local subject matter expert in some key sectors, as well as having overall strategic knowledge of all key sectors and businesses throughout the area. I'm a member of the local PACE group, communicating supply chain opportunities and also a voice for the businesses within our area.

What's your favourite thing about your job?
The vast variety and challenge! In this job, I have responsibilities that go far beyond client relationships and team management. I lead on the more challenging and complex projects across our area, and I really enjoy that aspect. I also enjoy the stakeholder relationships we build, getting to meet so many people, and learn what they do so we can work closely with them to achieve common goals.

Experienced in leading and motivating a team, you'll have a solutions-focused proactive approach with outstanding communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships. Passionate about the economic development of Argyll and the Islands area, you'll have experience in project management with strong financial and analytical skills., "We're passionate about supporting local businesses to innovate and grow. If you have the experience and drive to head up our business growth team, we'd love to hear from you."

What makes working at HIE special/different?
HIE goes where no other economic development agency has gone before, and has a unique and privileged remit to support the most rural and fragile areas in the Highlands and Islands. We have years of experience of this as an organisation and everyone within the organisation is invested in, not only improving the region we live and work in, but advocating for it and ensuring its potential is realised on a global scale.

Eilidh Cameron, Head of Business Growth, Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross:

"I have been in this role within HIE for a year now and relish the challenges it brings; every single day is different in this job.

"HIE is an organisation that really makes a difference to our region, and it provides real job satisfaction seeing the projects we have supported from the beginning come to fruition and make a material difference in our communities."
