THE ROLE: Lead and manage the ScotRail maintenance and production teams based across all depots. The role is accountable for depot production performance and as a key leadership role in the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Act as a credible leader, representing the maintenance depots as a highly visible and approachable Head of Service, leading by example.

* Accountability for delivering the required number of trains, in the right location at the right time in order to support the timetable. Availability and fleet utilisation are two critical success measures.

* Ensure all depots are managed and supported with the required resources to deliver a safe and reliable maintenance plan. Fleet reliability is a critical success measure.

* Show a drive to change and improve any and all areas of the team where required.

* Support Fleet Managers to ensure a robust recruitment plan is continually monitored and delivering the right people into the right roles at the right time.

* Represent ScotRail engineering at key business interfaces and meetings, providing the required reports, data and insight into the performance of the depots, fleets, people and processes.

* Take ownership of production and engineering process, identifying opportunities and driving improvement.

* Responding quickly but with a measured approach to challenges in fleet delivery, ensuring that any adverse situations have a recovery plan swiftly shared and enacted.

* Working across all areas of engineering to ensure safety on depots is priority, reducing injuries and lost time accidents and supporting ScotRail’s approach to mental health awareness and action.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with both key stakeholders in all ScotRail’s departments that interface with depots, and 3rd parties that are critical to the supply chain of the depots and production support.

* Represent ScotRail at industry level in relevant forums and meetings, ensuring that best practice from other areas in the industry are investigated for applicability to ScotRail.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

* Time served engineer or engineering graduate qualified to a minimum of SVQ level 3.

* Good Report writing and data analytics skills.

* A thorough knowledge of the technical and safety arrangements for Traction and Rolling Stock maintenance.

* Strong people skills with proven experience of managing large teams, especially those across large geographical areas.

* Experience in the use of quality systems and problem-solving techniques is essential.

* Strong leadership skills are required along with excellent communication skills

The job holder is required to hold a relevant track safety competence.

This post has on-call responsibilities.

Hours of work: 35-hour week. Reference Salary: £80k - £85k per annum.

Selection process: Assessment and interview may form the initial stages of the selection process. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire. Appointees must provide a basic disclosure Scotland check and at least 2 satisfactory references and complete a six-month probation period.
