AGS is embarking on an exciting period of growth across the airport portfolio with an increasing focus on commercial activities.

The newly created role of Head of Retail Operations and Performance is pivotal in ensuring AGS's vision to be the UK's leading regional airport group is delivered.

Retail contracts at the AGS airports mostly operate on a concession basis where the airport receives a percentage of the retailer's sales as the rent'.

Its vital that airports and retailers work closely to understand the levers driving the performance and produce joint action plans to evolve and improve.

The Head of Retail Operations and Performance is a senior management role in the commercial team that will manage the performance of the AGS airport retail portfolio - Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.

A network of 60+ retail units with 50+ million GBP income a year.

Reporting to the Retail Director, this role will be responsible for ensuring the contractual operational and financial targets for the retailers are exceeded across the AGS group.

The role will have laser sharp focus on the operational performance and the sales data for each of the retail and food and beverage units across the group of airports, ensuring that the income, standards of operation and retail experience are the best in class.

Leading a small Trading team across the group of three airports and working closely with the commercial analyst, Airport Managing Directors and the Heads of retail categories (Food and Beverage and Retail) the role will be accountable for delivering outstanding retail operations and trading performance via close management of retail contracts, passenger insights and trading data.

Principle accountabilities

  • Ultimate accountability of the full retail P&L, a £50 million GBP business.

  • Lead a team of x3 direct reports, responsible for supplier management, retail trading performance and operational retail issues across a wide geographical area.

  • Increase spend and participation rates through detailed sales analysis and acute understanding of customer insights to deliver improvement plans and other interventions when needed

  • Transform the retail offering :

  • Develop an understanding of our passenger profile and customer segments across all 3 airports.

  • Ensure retail standards and operations are as best they can possibly be, delivering best in class customer experience

  • Understanding the data what categories are performing above or below expectations. Then working with the category Heads to deliver improvement plans

  • Lead and develop the team, creating a high-performance, customer centric culture.

  • Put in place standardised procedures and reporting tools to ensure AGS follows the same process across all 3 airports.

  • Develop a standardised supplier management process, ensuring regular trade reviews with clear KPIs and actions.

  • Lead periodic reviews with the senior leaders of our retail partners, presenting performance initiatives when required.

    5+ years in a mid to senior level commercial retail role.

  • Extensive knowledge of the retail market with experience leading retail teams, ideally within a concessionaire environment.

  • Customer focused with experience of building a strong customer proposition.

  • A proven track record of business transformation.

  • Financially literate with a clear understanding of P&Ls.

  • A strong organisation mindset, with ability to set up new teams and processes.

  • Ability to present concisely and confidently to the exec and board.

  • Evidence of innovation, entrepreneurialism and the ability to rigorously test and apply new ideas.

  • A strong relationship builder both internally and externally.

  • A passion for retail and the customer.

    We have an exciting opportunity at AGS Airports Limited for a Head of Retail Operations and Performance to join our Commercial team.

    This is a full time, permanent role and will be based at Glasgow Airport, with frequent travel to Southampton and Aberdeen Airports.
