About the role

We are looking for a Health & Safety Compliance Officer to join our recently created Asset Planning Team. You will assist our Compliance Manager to ensure we provide clear methods of safe working across all service areas and working practices of SBHA, the Scottish Borders’ largest Registered Social Landlord.

You’ll be undertaking a varied role in our professional and friendly team; supporting our journey and developing the opportunity to shape the delivery of services to our Tenants and influence best practice to support your new colleagues.


Day to day

  • Ensure the safe and effective delivery of gas servicing and repairs, gas installations, and compliance with Electrical Testing, on behalf of SBHA
  • To assist in ensuring that SBHA stock is maintained in a safe condition
  • To assist the Compliance Manager in ensuring compliance with all statutory and other relevant legislative requirements and provide advice relating to all safety and compliance
  • To take responsibility and assist the Asset Safety Administrator in updating legislative registers
  • Shape how we deliver our services to our tenants and influence best practice to support SBHA.

Essential Qualifications

  • HND/C or equivalent in Gas, Electric or Renewable Energy (or equivalent discipline) or able to demonstrate equivalent through experience and willing to complete qualification within 3 years
  • Gas Safe ACS CNN1+ Appliances

Essential skills/experience

  • Previous experience in a construction or property environment, ideally in social housing
  • Experience of managing the performance of contractors and suppliers
  • Planning and control of expenditure in line with budgets
  • Knowledge and understanding of gas appliances in residential properties and legislation relating to health and safety and gas safety
  • Understanding of capital investment programmes
  • Strong IT skills across a range of systems and software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A team player with positive attitude and flexible approach.
  • Resilience and ability to problem solve and manage competing priorities
  • The desire to improve processes and systems
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car
