Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is dayshift Mon Fri with a flexible blended approach between home and site depending on activity, additionally, a condensed 4-day working week with a rolling day off is also available subject to agreement.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde for a Health and Safety Practitioner to join our dedicated Health and Safety Service. The post will provide competent advice and guidance to staff and managers regarding Health and Safety and support a strong culture of safety compliance to ensure the best possible safe working environment for staff and our service users. The successful candidate will provide specialist Health and Safety advice ensuring that the highest health, safety and welfare standards are maintained for staff and service users. In addition, you will ensure that all statutory requirements are complied with in line with policies and guidance. Applicants should have in-depth knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical application enabling them to provide expert advice on all aspects of health and safety within NHS GGC. 

Candidates should be:

  • educated to the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) diploma
  • or equivalent and hold or be working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). 

Alternatively candidates with degree level qualifications and have or working toward the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification will also be considered subject to Annex 21 of the NHS Scotland Agenda for Change agreement. Experience in implementing and auditing Health and Safety Management Systems, relevant training and experience working in highly regulated sectors such as Healthcare is desirable but not essential.
