Full Job Description

William Waugh (Edinburgh) Limited is a respected metal recycling business with a reputation for excellence. As a key player in Scotland's circular economy, we operate a fleet of heavy goods vehicles and specialised plant equipment to support our operations.

We're seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic/Plant Fitter to join our dedicated workshop team. In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of our fleet, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspections, servicing, and repairs on HGVs, company vehicles, and various plant machinery
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical and mechanical faults across the fleet
  • Assist with MOT preparation and inspections as needed
  • Adhere to planned work schedules and liaise with the transport administration function
  • Work independently on routine servicing and site breakdowns
  • Meet deadlines and work efficiently to maintain operational requirements
  • Ensure full compliance with all health and safety policies

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified HGV Mechanic with experience in a workshop environment
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised when required

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • HGV licence
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Understanding of vehicle inspection standards and maintenance requirements
  • Initiative and flexible approach to supporting the wider workshop function

Hours: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 8am – 12 noon (overtime); other overtime during the week available
