The Radiology Breast Imaging Service at Ninewells Hospital is looking to recruit an Imaging Department Assistant. You will be joining the imaging team to offer clinical support and providing high quality patient-focussed care. It will involve dealing with patients, public and staff at all levels. You will provide support to radiographers and radiologists, which can involve dealing with patients who may be distressed; therefore good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Your role will be to provide assistance for imaging procedures and undertake/support some clerical duties within the breast imaging department.

Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants will be considered (Permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010)

Main Duties of the Job

Maintain high standards of patient care and comfort including support of patients when undergoing interventional procedures, helping with changing and hygiene needs.

To provide support to the radiology service, workload management and assisting in the clinical environment to provide optimum patient care.

To set up trolleys for imaging procedures: both sterile and non-sterile using guidelines given.

To assist the Radiologists, Radiographers and Advanced Practitioners in specialist sessions, taking responsibility for patient care throughout the examination by observing, assisting and comforting when necessary. To apply dressings after interventional procedures and give aftercare advice to patients where necessary.

To deal effectively with patients and relatives before, during, and after imaging procedures.

About Us

The East of Scotland Breast Screening Service and NHS Tayside Breast Imaging Service is a combined Service based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.  The Screening Programme has a population base of 74,000 women and the Symptomatic Breast Service sees approximately 4,200 referrals per year.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team including Consultant Radiologists and Advanced Practice Radiographers, the postholder will provide a high-quality patient focussed care.
