Full Job Description

Utopian Professional Recruitment are delighted to be working with our Glasgow based client who are looking to expand their IT function and recruit an IT Support Technician to join them on a full time, permanent basis.


Working within a small onsite IT department, you will be responsible for providing onsite IT Support services to the full Glasgow office, resolving any technical problems from site employees to those working remotely, which will include all PC’s, servers and networks. You will ensure that all aspects of the manufacturing processes are supported from an IT perspective whilst working closely with local IT colleagues outside of the UK on implementing global projects.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide IT support and manage IT services across multiple regional sites, escalate priority issues, resolve IT incidents as process IT service requests needed
  • Work with local department managers and corporate IT staff to analyse and resolve problems associated with technical issues and recommend solutions for changing needs
  • Develop, document, and implement standard operating procedures and customer service guidelines relating to IT support
  • Develop business relationships and integrate activities with other IT departments to ensure successful implementation and support of project efforts
  • Provide operations support including backup, account management, workflow, log analysis, troubleshooting and service optimisation
  • You will gradually go on to participate as a global IT member and participate on global projects when needed
  • Champion and implement global IT standards and participate in the feedback process for continuous improvement
  • Manage local and regional IT vendor relationships
  • Manage local server rooms

To be considered for this opportunity, we are looking for the following background / experience:

  • The ability to manage and prioritise service requests with minimal supervision
  • Provide 1st & 2nd line support to colleagues across the business
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with all levels of staff and the ability to explain complex situations in simple terms
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A teamwork approach and the ability to act independently to solve problems
  • Engage comfortably with more senior managers; effectively present business solutions; determine the best way to get things done by talking their language and responding to their needs; develop approaches likely to be seen as appropriate and positive.
  • Ability to follow standard service desk procedures and quickly redirect problems to appropriate resources
  • The ability to manage small projects and understanding of project methodology
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience supporting Information Technology operations or equivalent technological work experience
  • Experience administering small-size corporate server rooms
  • Clean UK drivers license as this role may involve travel to others sites in Glasgow
  • Develop strong relationships across the site and the wider business and support any new implementations and projects
