The University of Strathclyde seeks to appoint a Kitchen Assistant as part of the Kitchen brigade supporting the Catering department. The successful candidate will be based in the catering team in the Teaching and Learning Building but will support across campus where required.
You will be required to undertake a range of duties including the receiving, rotation and storing of stock, waste control, cleaning of kitchen equipment in a fast paced environment, closing down the kitchen to the high standard expected in addition to performing all washing and cleaning duties as required in the kitchen.

The successful candidate will have good organisational skills with a customer focused approach to work activities. You will have previous cleaning experience in a kitchen environment using a large commercial dishwasher. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. You will also be required to use your own initiative and work as part of a team. A “Can Do” attitude is essential and you will have the ability to work with and support all other staff members in a polite and courteous manner. A knowledge of COSHH and Manual Handling will be advantageous although full training will be given.

Normal hours for this position are 35 per week and a flexible approach to a varied work pattern of 5 days over 7, including evenings and weekends, is essential. Shifts will vary to meet campus, conference and events business requirements, and some additional hours may be available.
