Based at Robertson Park or any of our satellite depots, you will lead as part of a specialist arborist team responsible for conducting tree work operations to the council’s tree stock.

 

 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Arborist to join our Arbour Team and oversee daily arboriculture operations. In this hands-on role, you will manage a team of arborists, ensuring all work is conducted safely and in compliance with regulations, while leading by example in all arbour operations. Key responsibilities include operating specialist machinery, performing risk assessments, and maintaining a high standard of safety across all tasks.

 

 

As the Lead Arborist, you will also take part in an emergency standby rota, leading emergency tree works and coordinating rapid responses to ensure 24/7 coverage throughout the year. Your leadership will be vital in emergency situations, directing the team in urgent tree removals and arbour operations. You will also act as the site responsible person on all arbour jobs, taking the lead for site safety.

 

 

LANTRA and NPTC certificates across a wide of range of Arboricultural Operations are essential with Evidence of continuing professional development and an understanding of current issues in arboriculture.

 

 

We are looking for someone with proven arboricultural, signing, lighting and guarding experience.

 

 

Experience of operating a range of specialist machinery, technology and equipment, Knowledge of arboricultural legislation and industry best practice, knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and tree identification.

 

 

You will take appropriate measures to mitigate risk and ensure safe working areas.

 

 

You must have experience of working with the public, demonstrable leadership qualities & be able to delegate/instruct staff (arborists) accordingly.

 

 

Effective interpersonal, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential.

 

 

The post requires driving responsibilities therefore a full UK driving licence will be essential as is the ability to safely operate a variety of arborist equipment, tools and machinery.

 

 

The post is a full-time position working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern ability to work on a shift pattern that will occasionally span weekends is also essential.

 

 

You may be required to enlist in an emergency standby rota when required, to ensure the council is able to respond on a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year basis to deal with all out of hours emergency tree work events.
