Team/Role Overview
Citi's Counterparty Trading and Risk and FX Legal Team advise two teams within Citi's Markets business: (1) the Counterparty Trading and Risk team; and (2) FX. The team are based in Tampa, London, New York and Belfast, and work closely with both Markets Legal colleagues in Singapore and Country Counsel globally.
What you'll do
This role requires a pragmatic, proactive attorney with thorough understanding of FX and derivatives transactions, including market documentation such as ISDA Master Agreements, combined with a solid conceptual / practical grounding in the laws and regulations for the geographies in which we operate. The role requires provision of input into strategic decisions, and exercise of sound legal judgement to develop proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially practical business-oriented solutions.
In particular, you will:
Provide day to day legal coverage of Citi's FX businesses, including the investor sales and corporate sales teams;
Help a senior lawyer in the team with transactions contemplated by Citi's FX structuring and solutions teams;
Work closely with the corporate sales team to negotiate and facilitate internal approvals of bond and loan finance linked transactions (project finance transactions, acquisition finance transactions and sovereign bond issuance), including leading intercreditor negotiations on behalf of Citi with lenders counsel and other creditor parties and work directly or with Citi's ISDA team documenting these transactions;
Assist Citi's business to develop new products and execute business in new jurisdictions (including undertaking legal due diligence on new currencies/products to be traded);
Support the team with managing close-outs and default scenarios, including those driven by global geopolitical and markets event;
Cooperate with other members of the Counterparty Trading and Risk and FX Legal Team to manage Citi's FX Prime Brokerage business; and
Connect with other members of the Counterparty Trading and Risk and FX Legal Team on various projects benefiting the businesses and legal support for the businesses.
Relevant experience within financial services, including laws related to banking regulations.
Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact Citi's Counterparty Trading and Risk business and Citi's FX business.
Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions.
Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills.
Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
