Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Pharmacy Technician, Area Procurement and Vaccines based at University Hospital Crosshouse.  This will also require travel to other Ayr Hospitals.

What you will do:

You will be an experienced pharmacy technician and will participate in the provision of a high quality pharmaceutical service within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Hospital pharmacy Services in NHS Ayrshire & Arran are undergoing a period of transformational change- and this vital role will help shape that.

You will manage our centralised Procurement and Stores team based at University Hospital Crosshouse and our Vaccine staff based at the Vaccine Holding Centre which is based at University Hospital Ayr.

You will have experience of managing and leading teams, change management and be able to demonstrate an advanced level of pharmacy knowledge, skills and judgement. Procurement experience is essential as you will present NHS A&A at a National level and will work closely with National Procurement and Public Health teams to ensure patients and service users across Ayrshire receive their medicines in a timely and cost effective manner.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

Qualifications:

  • SQA National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • SVQ Level 3- Pharmacy Services.
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (including evidence of  continuing professional development)
  • SQA Higher National Unit Final Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician.
  • HNC Pharmacy Services Development and Management
  • Assessor qualification for SVQ Level 2 and Level 3 Pharmacy Services candidates
  • PDA- Assessment of Individual patients medicines
  • Additional procurement training- desirable
  • Additional pharmacy systems training- desirable

Experience:

  • Significant experience as a Pharmacy Technician Higher level
  • Practical experience in at least two of the major technical specialities (aseptic dispensing, dispensing, distribution, medicines management, procurement)
  • Requires advanced arithmetic skills.
  • Experience in service provision and development.
  • Tutor for technicians and Pharmacy Support workers undertaking further qualifications
  • Demonstrable management and leadership skills and/or training
  • Excellent communication skills

Knowledge:

  • A working knowledge of NHS A&A Standing Financial Instructions
  • NHS A&A Procurement Operating Procedures
  • NHS A&A Organisational Policies, e.g. Promoting Attendance etc
  • Requires keyboard skills and knowledge of Windows software.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of information technology and GDPR
  • Requires expert knowledge of the Wellsky pharmacy computer system.

Hours:

37 hours per week.

You will participate in weekend, public holiday and extended hours rotas as required and will be based at UHC. In accordance with AFC terms and conditions there may be a requirement to work over 7 days and/or an extended working day.

Driving Licence/Car Ownership:

A car licence/car ownership is essential to this role.
